We are recruiting for 2 temporary assignment Community Participation Support Workers to work in our Community Support Services program in Barrie. Utilizing a personal outcome based approach, support people in making informed choices that lead to successful inclusion and participation in community based recreational/leisure activities; work/volunteer placements. These positions work 37.5 hours per week up to 6 months, with a rate of pay of $23.62 per hour.  

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB INCLUDE:

  •  degree or diploma in developmental services or a closely related field; or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge;
  • one year recent full time work experience working in a community setting supporting the integration of people supported through outcome based approach;
  • demonstrated knowledge of community resources;
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, good interpersonal skills combined with good computer skills and experience in Microsoft office applications and database administration;  
  • valid class "G" driver's licence and own reliable transportation is required to be used in the course of employment;
  • current valid certificates and a demonstrated proficiency in First Aid, C.P.R., and N.V.C.I. is required;
  • will be required to work flexible hours which will include working some evenings and weekends.

OVERVIEW OF DUTIES: (not inclusive of all duties):

  • facilitate and support participation in meaningful community based activities which support individuals to develop skills utilizing community infrastructure such as transportation services, to promote and develop leisure, recreational, employment and volunteer opportunities within the community;
  • support people to successfully transition from school;
  • assist people to maintain positive relationships in volunteer placements; providing job coaching as required;
  • participate in goal planning with the people supported and attending individual planning meetings as requested;
  • provide personal support and assistance in the community which are of interest and appropriate to the needs of the person supported;
  • facilitate positive involvement and interaction in the community, acting in a professional manner at all times and as a role model for people supported;
