We are presently accepting resumes for Casual Relief Direct Care Workers to work at our location in Shanty Bay. Casual Relief staff work hours as needed to cover vacation, open shifts, etc and there is no set schedule. This position provides supportive services to meet the direct care needs of individuals in a home that supports individuals that are elder.

Minimum requirements of this position include:

  • Candidates must have a completed Degree or Diploma from an accredited college or university in the Human Services field (including, but not limited to: elder care, health care or social services.)
  • Previous experience working with elder population; geriatric experience an asset;
  • Candidates must be willing to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays;
  • As a condition of hire, candidates must be willing to provide a current, clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening and a pre-employment medical;
  • A valid "Class G" driver's license and reliable transportation is required.

Duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Administering and assisting with routine medication and treatment procedures to meet the personal needs and comfort of the individuals and accurately maintaining appropriate records;
  • Assisting in the planning and implementing of leisure activities within the retirement home or throughout the local communities as directed by the individuals being supported;
  • Providing the highest level of personal care and attention to individuals, following individual care plans carefully and ensuring that all contact is polite, friendly, warm and supportive;
  • Liaising with other care professionals relating to the care needs of the individuals;
  • Being alert to individuals physical and mental well being, immediately reporting any changes in a individual's condition to the On-site Coordinator or Supervisor and to accurately maintain and update individual's records as required;
  • Being respectful and maintaining confidentiality of individual's personal information at all times;
  • Being understanding and patient towards individuals and their needs, and encourage, assist and support individuals to participate in leisure activities as appropriate to the individual, ensuring their social and emotional needs are met. This also includes escorting individuals to outside appointments and leisure outings;
  • Responsibility for making and changing beds, tidying individual's rooms (with the individual's permission) undertaking light cleaning duties as needed, ensuring that the workplace is maintained in a clean, safe and secure manner.

Special factors of this position:

  • Must be able to relate effectively with respect and dignity to the individuals living at the retirement home;
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills;
  • Must be able to perform duties in a polite, professional, courteous manner and advocate for the individuals of the retirement home;
  • The ability to understand and follow through on written and verbal instructions.
